Test Finds Popular VPN Services Leaking Identifiable Information
vpnMentor tested three popular VPN services: Zenmate, PureVPN and Hotspot Shield. The test found that all of them leaked some sort of sensitive data, including IP addresses.
Because these VPNs claim to be privacy-focused, the fact that they are leaking information is concerning. While the consequences of an IP address leaking may seem relatively minor, there are some potentially major threats. For example, anyone using a VPN in a country where the internet is censored or limited may face serious punishment for bypassing the system in place.
While Zenmate’s leak was reportedly more minor, it still revealed some identifiable information.
